What to do in and around Casares Pueblo
Julius Caesar during his period as governor of southern Spain between 63 and 60 BC is said to have cured himself of an illness by bathing in the sulfuric waters with medicinal properties here. As a result Caesar ordered the creation the bathing complex of which many parts still exists today in the municipality of Casares. Popular and free for all the baths are known locally as the “Baños Romanos de la Hedionda” although most people refer to them simply as the Roman Baths.
